How to spot doomers

They are essentially digital drug dealers for despair

Like it or not, we have a hostile government in charge for the next 3 years, as seen by the recent DC takeover. This means that to resist, we must safeguard our mental health properly. Life is mentally exhausting already; we do not need to listen to people making it worse by screaming their heads off whenever something bad happens. In the 7 months since Trump has retaken office, he has taken legitimately scary actions, BUT they also always backfire on him and weaken him. But instead of taking the win, too many people scream that “IT’S OVER” or “AMERICA IS DEAD,” and when it doesn’t end the country, they’ll start screaming again when Trump does something horrifying. If we want to survive, we must be clear who we can listen to and who we MUST ignore.

Jumping to the worst conclusion possible

Whenever Trump or Republicans do something evil, too many people jump to the worst possible conclusion, with Trump’s assault on Los Angeles being the prime example. When Trump announced that the National Guard and the Marines would be entering the city, I could understand people being frightened. I have no forgiveness for the people who screamed, “IT’S MARTIAL LAW, EVERYTHING IS OVER”!

As the doomers screamed that the attack on LA was the end of American democracy, the two months the Marines and National Guard were in the city were quiet. Honestly, despite some rough protests, there were only two circumstances that could be considered as the military harming US citizens. But if you believed the doomers, you’d think Trump was going to turn LA into a warzone instead of Angelenos still disrespecting ICE after the military was pulled out of the city.

I’m not saying what Trump did to LA wasn’t scary, but there is a world of difference between warning people of Trump’s intentions but motivating them to resist, and doomers who are screaming that it’s over. We need the former to inform and motivate us; the latter is asking us to sign our death warrant via despair.
