January 6th haunts Republicans

Despite what Republicans want to believe, Americans are not over 1/6th and that terrifies them

On January 6th, 2021 millions of Americans watched in horror as the unthinkable happened on American soil, an insurrection happened before our very eyes. As the day went on and the mob entered the Capital Building after beating up the Capital police, everyone wondered in fear. How could the Capital Building be breached by her own citizens, fed lies and conspiracy theories by the sitting President at the time? How could something like this happen because Donald Trump couldn’t accept that he lost a fair and free election? January 6th is a day that will live in infamy just like the attack on Pearl Habor and 9/11 because just like those days, it scarred America. It was an utter betrayal of the ideals that created this country by the party that loves to drape itself in our flag.

But despite the trauma and fear that 1/6th caused, Republicans have nearly uniformly and immedately tried to turn a blind eye to it. Yet despite the fact that Republican Represenatives and Senators were stuck in the Capital Building for hours, hiding from a deranged mob egged on by their dear leader to MURDER them, Republicans bent the knee towards Trump. When emotions ran high, they openly attacked Trump for endangering them but that changed in the weeks after. This is best shown with Kevin McCarthy, the Speaker of the House with the SHORTEST time in power, told his caucus that he wanted Trump to resign and blamed him for the attack to happily taking a photo with the orange turd a few months later.

Since then Republicans have become desperate to erase 1/6th or at least pretend that it wasn’t a big deal. Their lies have included “it was a simple tour”, “it was a rally that got out of hand” and “it wasn’t Trump’s cult, it was really ANTIFA”. You could really feel the desperation when McCarthy desperately tried to stop the January 6th Committe that Speaker Pelosi created investigate the failed insurrection.

So why are Republicans so desperate to bury it despite claiming that “no one cares”? Because they’re scared. They’re scared of people finding out the truth and how that will affect them. You have to remember while not every Republican elected official actually worships Trump, a good portion of them actually hate Trump, McConnell famously so. But they kiss his feet because Trump tied a noose around their necks. Republicans have no spines, morals or standards, they only care about money, power and their jobs. As much as establishment Republicans hate Trump and want him gone, they can’t allow 1/6th to taint their party especially when members of their party like Loudermilk gave the failed insurrectionists a tour of the capital building. If Trump is found guilty of an attempted insurrection, their party will forever be branded as traitors. So instead of showing their loyalty and bravery, they have instead shown their stomaches to Trump.

Republicans have done everything they could to downplay 1/6th from lying it wasn’t a big deal, delaying official investigations and likely praying that Americans no longer care, all in the vain hope that their party won’t be dragged to hell because of their cult leader. The problem is, they’re wrong. In the 2022 midterms, election deniers who believed that the 2020 election was fraudulent and that 1/6th wasn’t dangerous, lost.

So now that Jack Smith has made his immunity brief public, you can read a breakdown of the brief here by Mueller, she wrote, Republicans are once again lying that “Americans are over 1/6th” and instead care that “transgender people existing is wrong” or whatever racist dribble they come up with.

Simply put Republicans are horrified by January 6th because they KNOW it is a big deal and are DESPERATE for Americans to forget it. But just like how women will not forget losing their bodily autonomy when Roe was overturned, Americans won’t forget when Trump held a dagger at the neck of our democracy.
